甘蓝型油菜是由天然芸苔属基本种甘蓝(Brassica oleracea,2n=18, CC)和白菜型油菜(Brassica rapa,2n=20, AA)或白菜(Brassica campestris,2n=20, AA)经天然杂交和染色体自然加倍进化而来,为一个双二倍体(2n=38,AACC)。其起源于欧洲,在我国的栽培历史较短,遗传基础非常狭窄。人工合成甘蓝型油菜可以有效的拓宽现有甘蓝型油菜资源。芸薹属异源多倍体的进化一直是人们研究的热点,人工合成的异源多倍体是研究异源多倍化早期分子机制
