Purpose: Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and its receptor Tropomysin-related kinase B(TrkB)are over-expressed in a series of malignancies and associated with the tumor progression.Recent studies indicated that BDNF/TrkB axis may participate in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)of malignant epithelial tumours. However, the roles of BDNF/TrkB in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma(SACC)have been poorly investigated. The present study was aimed to investigate whether BDNF and TrkB expression is correlated with the clinical progression of SACC and whether BDNF/TrkB axis is associated with the EMT induction in SACC cells.
