Purpose:Development of MR/CT compatible and tissue-equivalent phantom was proposed for MRI-only based radiotherapy.Materials and Methods:The MR/CT compatible and a new tissue-equivalent phantom was designed to contain 14 plugs and each plug could be filled with water or chemical component without leakage. To create MR/CT compatible phantom for MRI-only based radiotherapy, each plug in the developed phantom was filled with various chemical mixture. The various chemical mixture was consist of 1)carrageenan to solidify chemical mixture 2)GdCl3 as a T1 modifier 3)agarose as a T2 modifier 4)NaN3 as an antiseptic 5)deionized and distilled water and 5)K2CO3 as a physical density modifier. The developed phantom with up to 14 plugs was utilized for measurement of the T1 and T2 relaxation times to test its feasibility as a tissue equivalent material in MR image. And signal intensity and hounsfield unit on MR,CT image, respectively, also acquired using 3.0 T MR(Philips Achieva 3.0 T,Philips Healthcare,Andover,MA,USA)and CT(SOMATOM Sensation 64,Siemens Medical Solutions,Forchheim,Germany).Result and Conclusion:A tissue-equivalent and MR/CT compatible phantom using various chemical component was developed. Most of single plug which was assumed to be tissue equivalent material in both CT image and MR image has adjustable range of T1,T2 relaxation time and signal intensity on MR image, hounsfield unit on CT image. As a further study, generation of pseudo CT based on correlation of each CT,MR image from our developed MR/CT compatible phantom will be performed.
