Back ground and purpose: Both oxidative stress and the overload of zinc ions (Zn2+) had been implicated in ischemic brain injury. However, whether there was a mutually influence between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and zinc ions following transient focal cerebral ischemia remain to be fully elucidated. Here,we investigated whether scavenging ROS and inhibiting the generated ROS could decrease the intracellular levels of zinc and finally reduce brain damage and improve neurological outcomes after transient focal cerebral ischemia.
