The energy crisis and environmental pollution are main themes in scientific research nowadays.Towards the problems, new material with reduced band gap as photocatalysts are in urgent need for solar energy conversion and photo-degradation.Especially, search for highly efficient photocatalysts that split water with stnlight has attracted extensive attention since the pioneering experiment of Fujishima and Honda.Ideal photocatalysts should have band gap from 1.8 eV to 2.3 eV, so as to cover a broad solar spectrum for catalyzing chemical reactions that reduce H+ to H2 and furthermore oxidize water to O2.Great efforts have been paid to search materials with reduced band gap for photocatalysts. One particular focus has been on TiO2, which shows relatively high reactivity and chemical stability under ambient condition.
