Despite decades of studies seeking marker-defined progenitors,a coherent model of dendritic cells(DC)development during hematopoiesis has proven elusive.Using a clonal assay to resolve granulocytic(G),monocytic(M),lymphoid(L)and DC potential from single human CD34+progenitor cells,we demonstrate that quantitative clonal output reliably indicates the developmental potential and direction that marker-defined phenotypes cannot.
