Salvia species (Lamiaceae) are important medicinal and culinary plants,and have been the hot topic of chemical and biological studies1-3.Salvia scapiformis,an annual herb with an alias "Bai-Bu-Yao",widely distribute in the southwest of China.Our current phytochemistry studies on the whole plants of this species has resulted in the isolation of 15compounds,of whieh compounds 1-10 are new ones.Their structures were determined by a combination of HR-ESI-MS,UV,IR,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques (1H-1H COSY,HSQC,HMBC,and NOESY spectra).The known compounds were elucidated as triendiol (11),(+)-l-hydroxypinoresinol-1-β-o-glucoside (12),(+)-l-hydroxypinoresinol (13),(+)-medioresinol (14),and (+)-pinoresinol (15),respectively,on the basis of comparison their NMR data and physical properties with literature values.In the study,conformational analyses of compounds 4-9 were conducted by means of NMR in various temperatures,quantum mechanical calculations,and chemical transformation.
