  Biosorption is considered as a promising technology for the recovery of precious metals.It has been extensively studied and tested by using different kinds of biomaterials as biosorbents including marine algae,fungal biomass,waste activated sludge,microbial biomass [1].The surface modification of biosorbents and immobilization of sorbents has been focused on enhancing the sorption capacity and application for large-scale metal recovery processes [2,3].In this study,modified polysulfone based fiber was developed as an efficient sorbent for precious metal recovery.In addition,Escherichia coli biomass was composited along with polysulfone fiber acts as a donor of functional groups for strong binding of PEI molecules on composited fiber as well as adsorption of metal ions.The E.coli biomass composite fiber (PSBF) was modified by using polyethyleneimine (PEI),an amino polymer.This fabrication was carried out by varying the pH conditions from pH 2 to pH 11.The PEI-modified PSBF (PEI-PSBF) were tested as a Pd(II) sorbent in acidic media.As a result,the Pd(II) sorption capacity of PEI-PSBF prepared at pH 10 showed the maximum uptake of 112.8 mg/g.However,above pH 10 the Pd(II) sorption capacity decreased.In this presentation,the reason why the optimal pH for coating is around 10 will be discussed.
