It has been presented that a model of 1D in space and 3D in velocity self-consistent Particle in Cell with Monte Carlo collision technique was employed to simulate the argon discharges between needle-to-plane electrodes at high pressure, on which a nanosecond rectangular pulse was superimposed.The work mainly focused on the investigation of the spatio-temporal evolution of the discharges versus the needle tip shape, working gas pressure.It was found that the discharge mainly occurred in the regions near the needle tip.The small radius of the needle tip led to easy discharge;reducing the working gas pressure gives rise to a transition from a corona discharge to a glow-like discharge.The microscopic physical mechanism for the transition was explored.
