Before Staudinger proposed the polymer hypothesis,coumarone-indene resin has been employed as additive in coatings,paint,asphalt tile and rubber.This thermoplastic resin can be prepared by the copolymerization of indene and coumarone catalyzed by concentrated sulfuric acid or AlCl3,but only gaven the molecular weight about 1000-3000.
