The relation between the individual and the society at the level of value is the core issue of values the answer to which relies on the ontological stance and methodological presupposition pertinent to the relation.In the history of thought,there are two contradictory ontological stances and methodological presuppositions of social holism and individual atomism which,nevertheless,share one and the same thinking mode.Taking the view of praxis as the point of departure,Marx stresses that rather than the abstract individual or the abstract society,the logic principle at ontological level of the relation between the individual and the society is the formers perceptual material activity.This setting converts the interpreting method as to individual-society relation from substantial thinking into relational one,from established one into generative and historical one,and hence provides reliable theoretical premises and fundamental methods for us to critically recognize and deconstruct the values of holism and individualism so as to probe into the rational value principles of individual-society relation in actual society.
