Abbottina obtusirostris,an endemic fish in China,is only distributed in the upper Yangtze River. With the completion of several dams along the upper Yangtze River, the resources for this species is in decline. Here,we determined the complete mitogenome sequence of A.obtusirostris using long polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. All genes were annotated with the aid of a web-based tool DOGMA.The complete mtDNA sequence was 16,605 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes,22 tRNA genes, and a control region (D-loop),the gene composition and order of which were similar to most of the other vertebrates.Except for eight tRNA (tRNA-Gln,Ala,Asn,Cys,Tyr,Ser,Glu,and Pro) and ND6 genes, all other mitochondrial genes were encoded on the heavy strand. Some overlaps were identified among the 13 protein-coding genes as shown in ATP8-ATP6 and ATP6-COⅢ,which were located on the same strand.Although ND5 and ND6 overlapped as well, they were encoded on the opposite strands. We hope the complete mitogenome of A.obtusirostris could be useful for the subsequent study of the genetic diversity and population structure of this species.
