Previous studies indicated that Transposable elements (TEs) constitute about 40% of the silkworm genome.Recently, we identified many new silkworm TEs, implying that the repertoire of TEs in the silkworm genome is much more than expected before. We also found that TEs might play important roles in genome evolution and gene functions. In this talk, I will present our recent research results on identification and evolution as well as functions of the silkworm TEs.
