Achnanthidiaceae was established by Mann in Round et al.and only two genera were included in this new family originally, Achnanthidium Küitzing and Eucocconeis Cleve & Meister.Round observed some material ofmonoraphid diatoms between 1996-1997,and based on these seminal papers eight new genera were established based on the outline, valve structure, areolae etc.
