Ghrelin enhances neuronal firing in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) where excitability of dopaminergic neurons determines the function of nigrostriatal system for motor coordination. However, how ghrelin regulates the neuronal excitability remains unknown. Here we describe a novel mechanism by which ghrelin enhances neuronal firing by inhibiting Kv7/KCNQ/M-channel through its receptor GHS-Rla-activated PLC-PKC pathway.
