Ambiguity validation is a critical step in the quality control of ambiguity resolution. It is realized by the so-called integer aperture (IA) estimator. In order to apply the IA estimation into practice, fixed failure rate approach was proposed. For instantaneous applications, the look-up table for an IA estimator can be created and applied. However, due to the time load in creating look-up table, only ratio test is feasible until now.Besides this, there is no evaluation standard for the quality of look-up table. In order to tackle these problems, this contribution will propose a simplified instantaneous and controllable ambiguity resolution method, which can be applied to linear IA estimators which can be approximated by analytical probability formulas. This method is easy to be implemented and can realize the instantaneous control to failure rates. In order to verify the effectiveness of this method, simulation experiments are implemented to test the performances of four linear IA estimators.Furthermore, this method is applied into GNSS compass application.Simulation and field test results show that the linear IA estimation based on this method can realize the quality control of ambiguity resolution, and the precision of GNSS compass can be improved. In GNSS compass field test,W-test IA estimator has a little better performance in improving the precision of heading than ratio test and other linear IA estimators. All results prove the effec-tiveness of IA estimation in the quality control of ambiguity resolution for the first time and provide the guidelines for the usage of IA estimators.
