Objectives Occupational health in developing countries is largely a neglected concept and there is a paucity of data concerning the extent of occupational injuries among healthcare workers (HCWs).According to WHO, approximately 3 million percutaneous exposures to bloodborne pathogens occur annually among 35 million HCW worldwide, resulting in an estimated 6,600 hepatitis B infections, 16,000 hepatitis C infections, and up to 5,500 HIV infections (WHO, 2008).The situation of percutaneous exposure to blood and other body fluids and injuries among healthcare workers in the central Africa region,particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is not documented in medical literature despite the precariousness of work condition in most healthcare settings.
