Channel variations of the Inner Mongolia reach of the upper Yellow River,characterized by multiple channel patterns and with a total channel length of 673 kin,have caught researchers attention.It is important to examine the channel migration rates in different sections of the river reach and during different periods.One of the challenges in this regard is how to obtain the migration rate of the fiver reach,as gauging stations are deficient there.The present study selected the Inner-Mongolia reach of the upper Yellow River as a case study,and searched each point of intersection of 236 digital channel cross-sections (average interval between two adjacent cross-sections is 2.85 km) and river banks in 1975,1990,2000,2006,2010 and 2011,which were plotted according to remote sensing images in those years.Subsequently each center point location between the two intersections in each cross-section in the years was calculated.
