Plumes have been visually identified in WL eclipses since ancient times and plume observations have been recorded over more than 150 years.Thier enhanced density and their(preminently) high latitude location suggests plumes have a relevant role as sources of mass and energy of solar wind.Here we review advances in this field aiming at defining the state-of-the-art in the area.
