Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages worldwide,and its consumption has been increasing since its health-enhancing effects have been reported.Although the pharmaceutical modes of action of tea components have not been clearly elucidated,tea is known as rich source of biologically active substances.The beneficial effects of tea extracts are mainly derived from polyphenols and flavonoids.Polyphenols and flavonoids act as effective antioxidants and are believed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and some cancerdevelopment by scavenging excess reactive oxygen species.
