Surface-mediated nonviral gene delivery systems that use substrates with immobilized DNA are useful for controlling cellular functions and behavior including proliferation and differentiation on the substrates.Among various substrates used for surface-mediated gene delivery, calcium phosphate(CaP)-based composite layers have the advantages of safety, relatively high gene delivery efficiency, and osteoconductivity, making them increasingly attractive as gene-stimulating and biocompatible scaffolds for tissue engineering applications1).
