The behavior of supercooled liquid, l-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate ([EMIM][NO3]) has been investigated by means of Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) as a function of hydrostatic pressure.[EMIM][NO3] is a halogen-free IL and relatively hydrolysis-stable compounds, and its melting point is about 310 K.It easily forms a supercooled liquid at ambient temperature and applies as electrolyte for electrochemical capacitors. It was found that [EMIM][NO3] underwent a liquid to solid phase transition at 0.85GPa and then transformed into another solid phase at about 2.24GPa.
