Under some site conditions, combined MED-MVC (Mechanical Vapor Compression) can be the most attractive option because it is compact, highly efficient, suitable for ground water and wastewater treatment at high temperature, especially, unlike other thermal distillation systems,no external heating source is needed.Since 1990s,Doosan has successfully developed MED/MED-TVC design, its performance prediction program and other advanced technologies in the field. Owing to this endeavor Doosan was recently awarded with an MED-TVC project having the worlds biggest MED unit capacity,15MIGD.For diversification of Doosans thermal distillation models,Doosan has extended its study to MED-MVC as well as development of advanced technologies in MED-TVC and MSF.Since 2007,an MED-MVC pilot plant having a capacity of 24m3/d has been developed and installed in Changwon,Korea, which is still being studied for further improvements of the MVC process as well as reducing energy consumption. This paper describes the experimental study of MED-MVC pilot plant and how to design large capacity, high efficiency MED-MVC distillation processes.
