Quality-control protocols, methods of strain identification, rules & policies for culture distribution, user communities, and services provided by repositories of living algae remained relatively unchanged for many years.Recent advances in molecular technologies, government export/import rules, and safety/environmental concerns have required significant changes in culturing practices of all kinds of microbial collections.
