Al-1.5%Mn-0.5%Cu alloys with increasing Mg content from 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 to 2.0wt.%have been developed for automotive heat exchanger units.They were DC cast and processed down to a final gauge of 1mm followed by a complete recrystallization at 590℃.The effect of Mg on the mechanical properties has been determined by tensile testing from the room temperature, 177, 215, 235, 260, 288, 320 to 345℃.It has been demonstrated that Mg contributes a very strong solid solution hardening at both the room and elevated temperatures.
