A rapid near infrared spectroscopic method for the variety discrimination and content determination of radix scutellariae,a medical plant widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),was developed. For obtaining reference data baicalein (B),baicalin (baicalein-7-glucuronide,BG) and wogonin (W) were analyzed simultaneously with a Diamonsil ODS column by gradient etution under high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection (HPLC-DAD).BG content determined by HPLC-DAD was exploited as a critical parameter for successful discrimination between wild and cultivated samples.Multiplicative scatter correction (MSC),standard normal variate (SNV),1st derivative and 2nd derivative were utilized to correct the scattering effect and to eliminate baseline shifts in all near infrared diffusereflectance spectra in order to give a better correlation with the HPLC results.
