Background The treatment of coronary chronic total occlusions (CTO) remains a challenge for the interventional cardiologist.Failure of balloon angioplasty is the common cause of an unsuccessful procedure.This study is to probe the safety of a novel penetration catheter (Tomus catheter) in the intervention of coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO).Methods From October 2009 to May 2012,5 CTO lesions,in which balloons failed to cross the occluded segments,were choose to be penetrated by Tomus catheter,then appropriate stents were placed after dilated by balloon catheters.Clinical characters were evaluated during and after the procedure.
