The streptomyces can produce many antibiotics and other bioactive molecules.Streptomyces hygroscopicus var.ascomyceticus (ATCC 14891),a strain of Streptomyces,produces an immunosuppressant FK-520 with antifungal activities.In our study,it was discovered that this strain has the ability to produce at least three structure types of antibiotics including FK-520(a kind of macrolide antibiotics),Nigericin(a kind of polyether antibiotics) and the antiftmgal polyene antibiotics.Therefore,at least three antibiotic biosynthetic gene clusters exist at the genome of this strain.
