The number of adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) is steadily increasing.Most of symptomatic cardiac malformations can now benefit from surgery or interventional catheterization.The result of such progress has led to an extraordinary change in survival rates of patients with congenital heart disease.But Heart failure (HF) remains as a major problem in the long-time follow-up in these patients group.Some studies in adults with chronic heart failure clearly indicate that blood levels of NT-pro brain natriuretic peptide (N-BNP) and peak oxygen uptake (VO2 max) measured by cardiopulmonary exercise tests can be used for objective assessment of HF and risk stratification.
