Vibration signal.analysis has been an important method in the detection and diagnosis of gearbox faults.A novel signal analysis method,which is now known as the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT),is introduced for localized gearbox fault diagnosis.To deal with the mathematical problems related to the HHT,a B-spline approach for empirical mode decomposition (BS-EMD) was introduced.The B-spline EMD method was applied to analyze the vibration signals collected from an automobile gearbox with a tooth crack.It was found that this method can enhance the transients excited by the creek and it is very effective to detect localised gearbox fault.
