Capillary Force Induced TiO2 Nano Particles Patterned in Microfluidic Chips and Used for Cancer Cell

  A simple and effective method using capillary force for TiO2 nano particles patterned in microfluidic channel has been demonstrated.Due to the hydroxide groups on the particles surface,specific cancer cells capture antibody can be successfully conjugated through chemical modification.Positive antigen cancer cells can be captured in the antibody modified microchannel in less than 1 minute since the size of cells was comparable to that of microchannel,which is in millimeter level.More than 90%of the cancer cells can be released by the fluid shear force induced by the flow fluid in the microchannel when the fluid shear stress achieved 400 dyn cm-1.Some of the cancer cells were still captured in the microchannel[1].In this paper,we introduced an alternatively that detached the cancer cells by the air bubble in microchannel.The force induced on the cells by the bubble was twice order larger than the fluid shear stress by the flow fluid.In this way,the cells can be released more efficiency and the recover sample volume can be reduced to tens of microlitre,which is very important when the numbers of cells was very low,such as the circulating tumor cells or the fetal nucleated red blood cells[2,3].
