The relationship between the anomalous western North Pacific subtropical High (WNPSH) in summer and the tropical SST anomalies (SSTA) has experienced an interdecadal change in the early 1990s.After this interdecadal change, the interannual variability of the WNPSH is more strongly regulated by the SSTA over the equatorial central Pacific (CP) and the maritime continent (MC) in summer associated with the developing ENSO, but is less affected by the SSTA over the tropical Indian Ocean (TIO) associated with the decaying ENSO.
