Radiotherapy is an important modality of cancer treatment.To development of new approaches to overcome rapid growth and radiation resistance of cancer cells is critical for improving the outcome of cancer therapy.The level of ROS generated could determine whether the activated cell will proliferate or undergo apoptosis.There is a close relationship between the cellular redox state, cell fate and the effects of irradiation.Imbalances between ROS and the antioxidant defense mechanisms are thought to play an important role in carcinogenesis and the responses to treatment.The complexity of Prx Ⅰ involvement in tumorigenesis has recently been demonstrated.By a twist of nature, in cancers developed by other mechanisms, Prx Ⅰ is used for enhancing cancer cell proliferation, protection against ROS damage, and may even involve in resistance against irradiation treatment.Moreover, we indicate that both Prx Ⅰ and p53 have potential roles in response of lung cancer cells to treatment in vitro and in vivo by regulating ROS.We demonstrated that the tumor inhibitory effect caused by lower Prx Ⅰ activity in lung cancer is p53-related.
