Polymer flooding has shown to be an effective method in enhancing oil recovery when compared to conventional water flooding projects in certain reservoirs.The addition of a polymer can reduce the total volume of water required to reach the ultimate residual oil saturation,and increase sweep efficiency due to improved mobility ratio.Many successful Projects have reported increased recoveries of 5-15%[1].However polymer-flooding produced water contains a large amount of total dissoved solids (more than 4000mg/L),especially some positively-charged ions such as Na+,K+,Ca2+ and Mg2+ will have negative impact on viscosity of polymer solution.
