Y(NO3)3·6H2O, Al(NO3)3·9H2O and isopropanol (C3H8O) were used as raw materials to synthesize YAG nanoparticles by sol-gel method while hexamethylenetetramine and citric acid were used as catalysts.Meanwhile, YAG particles were used as the second-phase to prepare Ag/YAG electrical contact composites by powder metallurgy method.Properties and morphologies were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), hardness tester and conductivity meter. Results show that YAG nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel method are 50~100nm in size with high purity. The prepared Ag/YAG composites have high electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength and excellent anti-welding performance.
