Planar chiral materials exhibit unique properties such as negative refractive index which has not been yet observed in nature.Nevertheless, successful construction of nanoscale planar chiral materials through a self-assembly process remains elusive.To address this issue, we have prepared face-on grafted aromatic macrocycle amphiphiles.Macrocycle A with a curved cisoid conformation forms faced planar chiral dimers which laterally-associate to form planar chiral 2-D sheets.
