Hydrogen gas can be made inexpensively.After delivery, the cost is US$6 and US$10 per gasoline gallon equivalent.Hydrogens cost disadvantage against conventional fossil fuels has been a major barrier in its use.Safe Hydrogen, LLC has slurry technology that solves three key problems in the transporting and storing of hydrogen-cost, density, and safety.The density carried in the slurry is equal to cryogenic liquid hydrogen.The slurry is non-toxic and safe to handle.The slurry is stored and transported at ambient temperature and pressure.Cost is equivalent to US$3 gasoline gallon.Current rail cars,barges, crude oil tankers, gasoline tanker trucks, tank farms, and filling stations can be used for storage and distribution.Safe Hydrogen uses a slurry of magnesium particles.When charged with hydrogen, the particles are converted to magnesium hydride.When discharged, the particles are converted back to magnesium.Storage and transport of the slurry contains no heating or cooling apparatus.Those heating and cooling functions are done in separate chambers where the slurry is discharged and charged, and that are sized to meet the design rates.The technology has three important uses.First, slurry can store electricity produced by intermittent energy sources.Slurry can convert it to a reliable source of power by regenerating the electricity through gas turbines.Second, hydrogen can be distributed to filling stations at prices competitive with fossil fuels.This competitiveness will allow hydrogen to be burned in internal combustion engines.The industries affected are automotive, railroad, and shipping.Third, the slurry can be a utility sized battery.This use allows the more efficient use of base load generation and the bypass of transmission bottlenecks.
