The likely default pathway of early age related macular disease (AMD) is to evolve to geographic atrophy for which there is no proven treatment.Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) may represent an event that may occur during the evolution of disease in which case successful treatment of CNV would be followed by geographic atrophy eventually.Evidence implies that the tissue changes in early AMD vary from one case to another.
