曾国藩是明清八大家之一,散文是其文学创作之主体。曾国藩是一个各体皆善的散文家,其最胜长的文类是序和记。曾国藩成功地承接了韩、欧古文的统绪,因而延续了中国文章之正统。曾国藩大力包举并振起了桐城派的余绪,因而最终成为桐城派之正梁。曾国藩以创作实绩促成了桐城派的中兴,因而使桐城派堂庑正大宏阔。曾国藩为文讲究气势与文采兼胜,因而保持了中国古文之正传。曾国藩的散文成就其基本特征是量多而文正。曾国藩在文学批评领域亦有建树,它体现在三个方面,一是道统的梳理,二是经世的强调,三是谴责性批评。在中国长期以来缺少谴责性的批评,因而曾国藩的这一文学批评范式尤其值得肯定。经学成就了曾国藩的一生,也成就了他的文学。制艺训练是曾国藩散文创作的基础,经学思想是曾国藩批评理论的根基。
Zeng Guofan is one of the Eight Masters in Ming and Qing dynasties, and prose is the main body of his literary creation. Tseng Kuo-fan is an essayist who is good at everything and his winning essay is sequence order. Tseng Kuo-fan succeeded in accepting the precepts of the Korean and European languages, thus continuing the orthodoxy of Chinese articles.
