　　In the northern Gulf of Mexico (GOM),rivers deliver large amounts of atmospheric-and terrestrial-originated organic and inorganic carbon to the ocean margins.Nutrient-rich river water also supports high levels of primary production in the shelf.A recent synthesis by Takahashi suggests that the GOM CO2 flux may dominate the net flux of the entire North American margins due to its strong signals and large area.
