This study was conducted to overview the way of practicing of composting processes by Local Authorities(LA)in Sri Lanka to investigate the success of it while recognizing the essential improvements which consisted with a questionnaire survey,field observations,and interviews.outcomes of study reveled that issues related to no source separation at origin,Lack of technical knowledge and willingness of workers about process,Lack of financial capabilities etc.have been able to hinder the smooth operation of the composting processes.However all facilities mentioned that even with these issues demand for composting is getting high and it has reduced considerable amount of waste going to landfills.
