The concept of walkable neighborhood is receiving more and more attentions recently.This paper takes neighborhoods in Shanghai as examples.By using socio-demographic background,satisfaction of pedestrian environment and objective measures of environment obtained from questionnaire and field surveys,the multiple logistic regression models were established to explore the key environmental factors which affect peoples walking for shopping and recreation.The result shows that higher street side shop density,wider sidewalks,more convenient public transportation,more centralized business and higher level of mixed land-use are in favor of the two types of residents walking within a certain built environment.
