Iron controls the growth of phytoplankton in certain of coastal regions and spans from the nmol/L toμmol/L level.Iron exists in Fe(II) and Fe(III) in aqueous environments.Dissolved Fe(II) has highbioavailability,and is generated via photoreduction and bioreduction of Fe(III) in estuarine andcoastal surface waters.
