In IEEE 802.16 based wireless mesh networks,a tree-based topology is usually assumedin centralized scheduling scheme,and the traffic is to or from mesh base station(MBS).The nearer anode locates to MBS,the mole traffic it should relay,and the more probably it becomes a bottlenecknode which influences the network throughput.Various advanced scheduling algorithms can notsolve the bottleneck problem efficiently when omni-directional antennas ale used.In this paper,multiple-beam smart antennas are proposed to use in the network nodes,especially in bottlenecknode,so that more links can transmit concurrently,and the bottleneck problem Can be solve defficiently.The simulation results show that the proposed method can improve the network throughput greatly,and tradeoff between performance and cost can be achieved by only usingmultiple-beam smart antennas in bottleneck node.
