Vascular function, characterized by endothelium-dependent relaxation (EDR), declines with age.A reduced bioavailability of vascular nitric oxide (NO), resulting from less NO production and more oxidative stress, or reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, has been considered a major mechanism for age-related endothelial dysfunction.
