Pain-related information captures attention in two ways, one is in bottom-upfashion,the other is in top-downprocess.Most previous studies of attentional bias towards pain-related information adoptedthe dot-probe task, the modified emotional Stroop task, and the visual cueing paradigm, taking the pain-related information as task-irrelevant stimulus. They concerned only bottom-up way but not top-down way.So far, there was no study investigated the effects of pain-related information on attention capture in both bottom-up way and top-down way, simultaneously. In the current study,a rapid serial visual presentation(RSVP)task was used to investigatethe bottom-up(single-task: pain-related information is task-irrelevant)and top-down (dual-task: pain-related information is task-relevant)effect of pain-related information on attention capture.Empathy disposition and catastrophizing thinking of pain were assessed by completing two self-report measures,Interpersonal reactivity index(IRI)and Pain Catastrophizing Scale(PCS).Results indicated that attentionwere captured by painful distractor more than by neutral distractor in order to destroy identify target following short time(200 ms)after the distractor both when the pain-related information was task-irrelevant and when it was task-relevant.Additionally,target accuracy in pain-distractor trialswas positive correlated with score of IRI in the single-taskandwas negative correlated with score of PCS in the dual-task.Therefore,the evidence was shownthathealthy participants displayed pain-relatedinformation-induced attentional blinkboth in bottom-upandtop-down way.
