Since the diagnostic value of the vessel parameters maximum velocity, pulsatility index and min RI has been found to be limited, power Doppler, a different method of signal processing, was developed to improve the visualization of small vessels.Power Doppler imaging proved better for assessing tumor vascularity, this technique registers the intensity of the reflected signals within a specific area but not the angle dependent frequency shift.Power Doppler sonography was more sensitive than color Doppler in detecting vascular signals and therefore the course of tumor vessels.A prospective study using three-and two-dimenionsal (3D and 2D) color flow displays of breast masses showed that 3D images provided more information on vascular morphology and allowed better sonographic discrimination of malignant from benign masses than did 2D images.Her2 and ER expression were the prognostic and predictor factors of breast cancer. In this study we aimed to evaluate the use of three-dimensional power Doppler ultrasound (3D PDU)in the in the prediction of biomarkers of breast cancer.A total of 170 malignant breast tumor images that had pathological confirmation were collected consecutively from January 2008 to January 2009.We used 3D PDU to calculate two indices (vascularization index (Ⅵ), flow index (FI)) for the tumor itself and for the tumor plus a 2-mm shell surrounding it.Then, we compare the clinical data of each patient include ER, PR, Her2/neu, grade and tumor volume in order to clarify their correlations with tumor vasculization. The result showed that the 3D PDU-Ⅵ and tumor volume correlated with Her2 over expression (P-value <0.001) and in verse correlated with ER expression (P-value <0.0025) with statistic significance.Tumor grade and PR expression were not found to have any relation with tumor vasculization.
