Lao PDR has a long history of using medicinal plants as well as traditional medicine which contributes to the treatment and prevention of diseases both in urban and rural areas of the country.The Lao government support and encourage the rational use of medicinal plants in Primary Health Care, and the integration of traditional medicine and conventional medicine in national health system.In response to the government policy and based on the old tradition and accumulated experience the Lao people still continue to use the medicinal plants and traditional medicine nationwide, especially in remote areas where limited access to modem health care system is occurred.Each ethnic group has its own knowledge on the use of medicinal plants and traditional medicine.The traditional knowledge on the use of these plants has been passed down and is held by many healers today.
