The effect of aqueous extract of Acacia nilotica, Brassica chinensis, Azadirachta indica and Maxima ekclonia in the control of Heterodera glycine was tested both in vitro and in vivo.Four botanical extract concentrations namely: Standard concentration (SC), 0.1SC, 0.01 SC and 0 SC (Control).The SC proves phytotoxic to the test plant soybean (Glycine max) and hence it was discarded.In vitro, aqueous extract of all the four botanicals inhibit egg hatched of H.glycine when compared to the distilled water control by between 11.48% to 75.2% after 96 hours exposure and caused second stage juvenile (J2) mortality by between 10.0% to 100% after 84 hours exposure.In green house in vivo bioassay experiments the extracts the botanical when compared to the distilled water control reduced the number of H.glycine cysts by between 10.74% ~ 80.64%on 10 grams roots and reduced females number by between 28.57% ~ 82.67%.A concomitant increased in soybean growth parameters of shoot height, root length, dry shoot and root weight was observed.The aqueous extract of all the botanicals, especially at concentration of 0.1SC, exhibited remarkable nematicidal qualities and if harnessed could give rise to environment friendly organic nematicides that is alternative to the toxic synthetic chemicals nematicides.
