We developed a fast and cost-effective method for isolation of taxifolin from the heartwood of Larix gmelini with AB-8 macroporous resins using preparative high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).The mobile phase of preparative HPLC is 35% (v/v) of methanol in water.Twenty five gram (g) of extracting materials, which contained about 150 mg taxifolin, could produce 212 mg of taxifolin-rich extracts (57.78% taxifolin). After purification with preparative HPLC,19.2mg high-purity products (>94.3%) was obtained from 34.62 mg of taxifolin-rich extract. The products were assessed by analytical HPLC and characterized by MS,1H NMR and 13C NMR.This method may be practical for industrial preparation of taxifolin and provides a low-cost way to use currently underutilized industrial by-products.
